The Department of International Relations at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, Holds Its Scientific Symposium on Global Energy Security Transformations

In alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, the Department of International Relations at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, held its scientific symposium titled “Transformations in Global Energy Security: From Petroleum to Green Energy” on Sunday, 23 November 2025.
The symposium derives its importance from shedding light on global shifts in energy security and highlighting the challenges and opportunities associated with the transition from oil dependence to green energy sources. It also contributes to raising awareness on the need for sustainable policies that enhance economic stability and support technological innovation. Moreover, it provides a meaningful platform for dialogue between experts and decision-makers to develop more secure and efficient future visions, while examining the geopolitical dimensions of energy and its role in shaping the upcoming global order.
The symposium addressed a set of vital issues related to global energy security and the transition toward clean energy, including Iraq’s strategies for moving from fossil fuels to renewable energy, the influence of societal thought patterns in supporting this transition, the role of technology in advancing renewable energy and boosting international competitiveness in the green energy sector, in addition to exploring the dynamics of emerging powers in the global energy market and the decreasing reliance on traditional energy models.
The event featured five research papers presented by Prof. Dr. Hazem Hamad Mousa (Head of the Department), Asst. Prof. Dr. Tareq Mohammed Thanon, Asst. Prof. Dr. Omar Hashem Thanon, Lecturer Dr. Rasha Suhail Mohammed, and Lecturer Basma Mohammed Nadhir. The scientific session was chaired by Lecturer Dr. Firas Mohammed Elias, with Asst. Lecturer Abdulkarim Zuhair Atiya serving as the session rapporteur.
The symposium was held under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Asst. Prof. Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jasim Al-Taei, and attended by the Administrative Assistant Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Hussein Yassin, along with a group of the college’s staff members. It was organized in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit (University Presidency) and the Continuing Education Unit (College Deanery), and falls within the department’s annual plan for the academic year 2025–2026.
