The College of Political Science at the University of Mosul Attends the Central Celebration on the Occasion of the Great Victory Day and International Human Rights Day

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals—specifically Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 5: Gender Equality, Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, and Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions—and in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit at the University of Mosul Presidency, the university held its major official celebration, combining the commemoration of the Great Victory Day over terrorism and the liberation of the homeland with the celebration of International Human Rights Day. The event took place on Thursday, 11 December 2025.

The ceremony was attended by high-level officials, including the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Adnan Al-Jumaili, and the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, along with a number of leading academic and governmental figures. Among them were Dean Hakem Daham, Director of the Civil Status, Passports, and Residency Department in Nineveh; Member of the Provincial Council, Rabee Youssef; Mr. Yasser Diaa, Head of the Human Rights Commission – Nineveh Branch; as well as the university’s scientific and administrative assistants, deans of colleges, and security leaders.

From the College of Political Science, the event was attended by the Head of the Public Policy Branch, Professor Dr. Waleed Salem Mohammed, representing the Dean of the College, Associate Professor Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jassim Al-Taie, accompanied by the scientific and administrative assistants, Associate Professor Dr. Khairallah Sibhan Al-Jubouri and Associate Professor Dr. Ali Hussein Yaseen.

The celebration began with the raising of the Iraqi flag, the national anthem, and the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha in memory of the martyrs. The Deputy Minister delivered a speech highlighting the importance of victory and the sacrifices of the Iraqi people, emphasizing the role of education in instilling national values and building a prosperous future. The university president welcomed the attendees, noting that the University of Mosul continues confidently on the path of reconstruction and scientific advancement, stressing that the triumph of knowledge over ignorance is the true extension of the Great Victory Day.

The program included a series of videos introducing the university and its achievements, as well as videos on human rights and genocide crimes, accompanied by the recitation of a poem by Dr. Jassim Al-Aja in honor of this national occasion.

The legal study presented under the human rights segment was supervised by Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, while the study team comprised Associate Professor Dr. Rafil Hasan Hamed, Associate Professor Dr. Ziyad Abdulwahab Abdullah, Associate Professor Dr. Suhad Abduljamal Abdulkarim, and Lecturer Dr. Saeed Khadida Golo, Head of the Human Rights Division. This joint scholarly effort provided a comprehensive research framework documenting the genocide crimes committed against the Yazidi community and analyzing their legal and humanitarian dimensions.

The event concluded with an awareness lecture delivered by Dr. Naama Luqman Mohammed from the Human Rights Commission on combating violence against women, emphasizing the need to instill human rights culture in educational institutions and society at large.

Through this celebration, the University of Mosul reaffirmed its dual commitment: to consolidate victory through human and scientific development, and to safeguard human dignity by promoting justice, rights, and freedoms.
