College of Political Science, University of Mosul, Holds an Educational Scientific Seminar on the Negative Effects of Drug Abuse

In pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals—Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, Goal 4: Quality Education, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals—and in cooperation with the Departments of University Psychological Counseling, Media and Government Communication, Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit (University of Mosul Presidency), the Continuing Education Unit (College of Political Science), and the Directorate of Drug Control / Nineveh; the University Psychological Counseling Division organized an educational scientific seminar entitled “Drug Abuse and Its Effects on the Individual and Society”, on Sunday, 14 December 2025.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students and the university community about the dangers of drug abuse and its health, psychological, social, and security repercussions, to explain the reasons behind its spread and ways of prevention, to enhance awareness of the role of educational and security institutions in limiting this phenomenon, and to promote a culture of social responsibility among youth.
The seminar consisted of a single lecture delivered by Mr. Falah Mahdi Saleh, Director of Media at the Directorate of Drug and Psychotropic Substances Affairs in Nineveh, and was chaired by Dr. Firas Mohammed Elias, lecturer in the International Relations Branch.
The seminar was held under the patronage of the College Deanship and was attended by Prof. Dr. Walid Salem Mohammed, Head of the Public Policy Branch, representing the Dean of the College, Asst. Prof. Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jassim Al-Ta’i, along with some members of the College Council and a number of faculty members, staff, and students.
