A faculty member of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul participated as a member of a master’s thesis defense committee at Al-Nahrain University on the impact of transformations in the regional environment on deterrence strategy

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals—Goal 4: Quality Education, and Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions—and in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit (at the Presidency of the University of Mosul), the College of Political Science at Al-Nahrain University witnessed the defense of the master’s thesis submitted by the student Samaa Ali Daham, entitled: “The Impact of Transformations in the Regional Environment on Deterrence Strategy: The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a Model,” on Tuesday, 13 January 2026.

The defense committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Ali Faris Hameed, with the membership of a number of other faculty members, including Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Maysir Fathi, a faculty member of the Department of International Relations at the College of Political Science.

The thesis examined the impact of transformations in the regional environment of the Middle East on the formulation and adaptation of deterrence strategies adopted by both Iran and Saudi Arabia, with an analysis of the determinants of these strategies and their implications for regional security.

Following the discussion, the committee’s decision was announced, approving the thesis and awarding the student the Master’s degree.
