The Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul Attends the Launch Ceremony of the National Standards for the Accreditation of Political Science Programs

In pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals—Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals—and in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit (at the Presidency of the University of Mosul), the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad held the launch ceremony of the national standards for the accreditation of political science programs in Iraq on Monday, 29 December 2025.

The ceremony was attended by the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Head of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority, Professor Dr. Salah Hadi Salih; the Head of the Committee of Deans of Colleges of Political Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Abdul Hamza Thujail; in addition to the deans of the concerned colleges and a number of university and academic leaders. Representing the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul was Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jassim Al-Ta’i.

In his speech, the Minister’s representative emphasized the importance of program accreditation as a fundamental tool for ensuring the quality of higher education, stressing the necessity for colleges and departments of political science to adhere to accreditation standards in order to enhance their outputs and strengthen the standing of academic institutions at various levels.

For his part, the Head of the Committee of Deans pointed out that obtaining program accreditation is no longer an option but an academic entitlement, calling on colleges and departments to promote a culture of quality and institutional development in line with the requirements of the state and the labor market.

In his address, the Head of the National Council for the Accreditation of Political Science Programs explained that the launch of the national standards represents a qualitative shift from a focus on quantity to a focus on quality, and establishes a unified national reference that ensures the development of academic programs and links them to state-building and public policy-making.
