College of Law Witnesses Master’s Thesis Discussion on the Obligations of Peacekeeping Forces in International Law

The College of Law witnessed the discussion of the master’s thesis titled **”The Obligations of Peacekeeping Forces: A Study within the Scope of International Humanitarian Law”** , submitted by student Youssef Yasser Youssef Qasim Al-Najdi.

The thesis addressed the study of the legal framework governing the work system of international peacekeeping forces, focusing on the extent of these forces’ commitment to the rules of international humanitarian law. The study also examined the legal implications of determining the legal status of these forces and their international and criminal responsibility for violations they may commit or be subjected to while performing their duties.

The importance of the research emerges in light of the qualitative development of peacekeeping operations after the Cold War, as they are no longer limited to monitoring ceasefires but have extended to include complex military, security, and humanitarian tasks. The study aimed to:

– Define the primary role of peacekeeping forces as a means to achieve stability in conflict zones.
– Highlight the achievements made in resolving conflicts and consolidating peace.
– Discuss the field challenges they face, such as resource shortages, security risks, and political difficulties.
