Doctoral Dissertation Defense on Constitutional Transformations and Nation-State Building

On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the College of Law at the University of Mosul witnessed the defense of a doctoral dissertation entitled “Constitutional Transformations and Their Impact on Nation-State Building,” submitted by the student Hamid Shihab Ahmed.
The dissertation examined and analyzed the impact of constitutional transformations on the formulation of new constitutions that adopt a supreme philosophy and modern concepts of authority and the form of the state. The study also highlighted:

The building of a modern nation-state based on the criteria of national unity, popular sovereignty, and the separation of powers.

Analyzing the conceptual framework of constitutional transformations and defining their relationship with the nation-state.

Studying the internal and external challenges facing these transformations.

Reviewing practical applications and international experiences, including (Tunisia and South Africa), in addition to highlighting the Iraqi experience before and after 2003.

At the conclusion of the defense, the dissertation was accepted as part of the requirements for obtaining a Doctorate degree in Public Law, in appreciation of the scientific efforts made and the importance of the topic in enriching the legal library.
