Master’s Thesis Defense

The College of Law held a defense of the master’s thesis titled (The Role of Intelligence Efforts in Humanizing Armed Conflicts) by the student Hamid Mahmoud Ibrahim, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in the presence of a number of professors and researchers.
The thesis aimed to demonstrate the role that intelligence can play in mitigating the effects of armed conflicts on civilians, by providing accurate information to decision-makers that helps avoid targeting civilians, early detection of humanitarian threats, as well as directing humanitarian aid and protecting vital infrastructure, in addition to uncovering violations and providing necessary data to develop military strategies that take civilian safety into account.
The study also sought to present a humanitarian legal vision that makes intelligence a tool for prevention and protection rather than a means of control and violation, and to open new scientific horizons for the jurisprudence of international humanitarian law in dealing with modern warfare tools where information intersects with justice and military decisions intersect with the human conscience.
The defense committee consisted of:
-
Prof. Dr. Raqeeb Mohammed Jassim – Chairperson
-
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hala Ahmed Mohammed – Member
-
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suhad Abdul Jamal Abdul Karim – Member
-
Prof. Dr. Mohammed Younis Yahya Al-Sayegh – Member and Supervisor
The defense witnessed a scientific discussion that addressed the most prominent themes and findings of the thesis, given the importance of the topic in linking intelligence work with the principles of international humanitarian law in a way that contributes to reducing the humanitarian impact of armed conflicts.
