Master’s thesis in the branch of human rights law on the legal protection of prisoners’ rights/a study of the provisions of international human rights law,,,
On Sunday, September 17, 2023, the Human Rights Law Branch at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on the legal protection of prisoners’ rights/a study of the provisions of international human rights law, some of which were attended by a number of members of the college council and its faculty.
The thesis submitted by student Salem Ezzedine Saeed in the human rights law branch dealt with the prisoner and the basic rights he enjoys under international agreements and charters, in addition to the political and civil rights and international standards that were approved to protect the rights of the prisoner, which were monitored by the United Nations in the Standard Minimum Rules for the Rights of Prisoners of 1955, as well as What is included in the charters of international and regional organizations and the League of Arab States in order to rehabilitate and reform the prisoner and return him to society as a normal human being.
The letter aims to explain the importance and necessity of establishing various institutions and facilities under the auspices of the state and international organizations to employ prisoners in them when the judge chooses the punishment of service for the benefit of society as an alternative to the prison sentence and with wages sufficient for their needs and the needs of their families to avoid the negative effects of imprisonment and its harms, in addition to the importance of working to solve the problem of prison overcrowding in penal institutions. It is important that work and education in the prison institution play a role in benefiting from a reduced sentence.
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Muhammad Younis Yahya, the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Assistant Professor Dr. Ziad Abdel Wahab Abdullah, and the membership and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Soha Hamid Salim.
