Under the patronage of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law at the University of Mosul, and in the presence of the members of the College Council and Captain Abdul Rahman Al-Khayyat, Director of the National Security Office at the University of Mosul/Second Complex, and in cooperation between the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Committee in our college and the National Security Service/Ninawa, Captain delivered a speech Omar Al-Asadi and Captain Hudhayfah Al-Dabbagh/Ninawa Security Directorate, who specialize in electronic blackmail issues, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. The scientific lecture titled electronic blackmail and its negative effects on society, which dealt with methods of dealing and preventing electronic blackmail, where the causes of electronic blackmail that may be due to a security error were explained. By the user not taking appropriate precautions, in addition to the lack of awareness and lack of understanding of the importance of taking preventive electronic measures that prevent the electronic account from being hacked. Electronic blackmail also comes in many types, it may be sexual, material, or utilitarian. The lecturers explained the approved mechanism for dealing with the blackmailer by the person who He is being blackmailed, first and foremost by informing the competent security authorities, noting that the complaint submitted is kept secret, as well as not giving in to the blackmailer’s demands. In addition, there are reasons for blackmail, including the high unemployment rate, access to suspicious and low-level websites, the absence of family control for the person who falls victim to blackmail, as well as the victim’s lack of awareness. Statistics were also presented that showed the number of blackmail victims. The lecture touched on preventive ways to protect the family and its members from blackmail, foremost of which is the necessity of not owning a phone at an early age, monitoring the family by following up on its members by their relatives, and not visiting unreliable websites, in addition to exaggerated publishing of pictures. And the various data and activities in the accounts on social networking sites. The lecturers also highlighted the distinguished role and tireless efforts of members of the National Security Service in combating cybercrimes, as it is the specialized authority in reducing these crimes, noting the possibility of a citizen who is subjected to blackmail by calling the hotline 131 and submitting complaints about it. Through the offices of the National Security Service in Nineveh Governorate, about any case of blackmail that he or a member of his family may be exposed to. The lecture showed methods of protection from blackmail that include family education and sound community upbringing by guiding the individual to what is right and to follow it, and what is wrong and the necessity of staying away from it. Then he delivered Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College, gave his speech in which he praised the distinguished role of the heroes of our security services in protecting society and maintaining its stability, stressing the importance of cooperation between members of society and government agencies, which are the official body responsible for protecting the nation and the citizen, pointing to the role of our college in providing scientific research. And the completion of academic studies that emphasize the necessity and importance of informing the competent authorities in the event of exposure to anything that might threaten the security of society and the safety of its members. The lecture witnessed a distinguished presence of the college’s students and its scientific and administrative staff, who asked many questions and inquiries about the topic of the lecture, which were answered in detail by the organizers. Then, the Deanship of the College presented certificates of appreciation to the lecturers in appreciation and praise for their efforts aimed at raising community awareness of the dangers of everything that might disturb societal stability. This lecture comes within a series of scientific, research, cultural and academic activities of our College during the current academic year 2023-2024.
