Master’s thesis in the private law branch on the status of refugees in private international law/a comparative study,,,
On Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Private Law Branch at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on the status of the refugee in private international law/a comparative study, part of which was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College, and a number of members of the College Council and its faculty.
The thesis submitted by researcher Jihad Hassan Ahmed in the private law branch dealt with the refugee, who is considered a person who left his country and took a safe haven in another country. The legal status of a refugee differs from the legal status of a natural person residing in his country, just as it differs from the legal status of a displaced person, an immigrant, or a homeless person. Nationality, in addition to the fact that asylum has different types depending on its circumstances and reasons.
The message aims to establish a definition of the refugee and distinguish it from some terms that may result in confusion, such as refugee, migrant, and stateless person, in addition to specifying the conditions for granting refugee status and the authorities competent to grant this status in the host country.
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Zeina Hazem Khalaf, with Assistant Professor Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Muhammad as a member, and Assistant Professor Dr. Murad Saeb Mahmoud as a member, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Tawfiq Abdullah.
