There is no sustainable peace without – College of law

“There is no sustainable peace without education.” The first day of the Education for Peace Conference in Iraq, which is being organized by UNESCO and the University of Mosul, concluded, emphasizing the important role of education in building just, inclusive and peaceful societies.
The conference was organized within the framework of the “Gender-Based Approach to Reducing Violent Extremism through Education in Iraq” project funded by the Government of Canada. The conference opened with welcoming remarks from His Excellency Mr. Najm Al-Jubouri, Governor of Nineveh, Professor Munir Salem Taha Al-Badrani, Assistant President of the University of Mosul for Scientific Affairs and Mr. Paolo Fontani, UNESCO Representative in Iraq. The conference included the official launch of the UNESCO Chair at the University of Mosul on Rejecting Violent Extremism and Promoting a Culture of Peace, as well as keynote addresses by Professor Alan Smith, Professor Emeritus at the University of Ulster, and Dr. Naila Tabbara of Adyan Foundation. In addition, the activities of the conference included art exhibitions, workshops for students, and dialogue sessions on the situation of education for peace in Iraq.
