Symposium. Rapid Development of a 2109 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

Under the patronage of President of University of Mosul Prof. Dr.Qusay Kamaladdin Al-Ahmady and and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine Prof. Dr. Dhafer Mohammad Aziz and the Dean of the College of Medicine Prof. Dr. Basil M. Natheer. The College of Veterinary Medicine and College of Medicine held a scientific symposium entitled “Rapid Developmentof a 2109 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)”. This Symposium held at the hall of Scientific and Literary Forum of the University of Mosul on Sunday 2ndFebruary, 2020.The symposium was attended by the President of University of Mosul, President of Ninevah University, Rector Assistant for Scientific Affairs of University of Mosul, General Manager of Nineveh Health Department, a number of hospital administrators in Mosul city, a number of deans of collegesand a number of professors and doctors from the University of Mosul.The symposium started with speech delivered by the Rector Assistant for Scientific Affairs of University of Mosul Prof. Dr. Muneer S. Taha. Then, the symposium was continued with four selected talks by staff from the College of Veterinary Medicine and the College of Medicine followed by the guest speakers.At the close of the symposium there were several general suggestions and recommendations such as:-

  • Frequently clean hands by using soap and water.
  • When coughing and sneezing cover mouth and nose with tissue.
  • Close borders, screen airline passengers, or cancel flights with any infected countries with 2019-nCoV (currently only China).
  • Foreign nationals who visited China in the past 14 days should be banned from entering our border.
  • There is an urgent need for establishing a centralmedical diagnostic lab. in the University of Mosul to deal with these situations.
