College of Veterinary Medicine
- The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at the University of Mosul is a five‑year, full‑time undergraduate program comprising 300 ECTS credits, fully aligned with the Bologna Process and the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF).
- The program provides students with comprehensive theoretical, laboratory, and clinical training across all major fields of veterinary medicine, including anatomy, histology, physiology, pathology, microbiology, parasitology, pharmacology, internal medicine, infectious diseases, surgery, reproduction, public health, and food hygiene.
- Students receive workload training through lectures, laboratory work, clinical rotations, field visits, seminars, and project‑based learning. The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for professional veterinary practice, livestock and pets health management, zoonotic disease control, and food safety. Graduates acquire the scientific, clinical, ethical, and communication competencies required to diagnose, treat, prevent, and manage animal diseases, safeguard public health, and contribute to sustainable livestock development.

1. Teaching the students various medical sciences and veterinary surgery during five consecutive years.
2. Providing clinical services by faculty professors and with the participation of students in the diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases.
3. Providing advice to animal owners, livestock projects and poultry farming on the best ways to manage, develop and improve animal projects.
4. Maintaining human health by controlling common diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans.
5. Holding continuing education courses in various specialties of veterinary medicine for veterinarians to increase and develop their scientific and clinical information to serve the community.
6. Conducting scientific research in various fields of veterinary medicine and working to solve the problems facing livestock in the country.
7. Developing and graduating a qualified scientific cadre for teaching and scientific research in various veterinary specialties.
8. Improving the environment by controlling environmental pollution, which reflects positively on human health.
Upon successful completion of all program requirements, graduates are awarded the: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery
The program is classified at Level 6 of the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF), or its equivalent, in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR).
Admission to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery programme is governed by the regulations and admission policies of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Applicants must meet the approved admission criteria for Veterinary Medicine and Surgery programme.
To award the B.Sc. degree in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, students must:
- Successfully complete 300 ECTS credits across 10 semesters.
- Complete all theoretical, laboratory, clinical, and field training components.
- Meet attendance requirements and pass formative and summative assessments.
- Complete the graduation research project required in Level 5.
- Comply with all academic regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and transfer of academic credits are considered only in cases of student transfer or course equivalency, in accordance with the
regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery are expected to achieve the following Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) / Graduate Outcomes (Gos) that describe the knowledge, skills, professional competencies, and ethical responsibilities required for effective veterinary practice upon graduation.
GO1 – Knowledge and Understanding
Graduates will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of:
1. Fundamental sciences, including biology, anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, and nutrition.
2. Fundamentals of pharmacology, toxicology, microbiology, parasitology, virology, pathology, and immunology.
3. Causes, mechanisms, and manifestations of animal diseases across species (ruminants, mono-gastric, poultry, fish).
4. Principles of veterinary public health, zoonotic diseases, and meat and milk hygiene.
GO2 – Veterinary Clinical and Diagnostic Skills
Graduates will be able to:
1. Perform complete physical examination of animals, including clinical evaluation of animal body systems.
2. Conduct diagnostic procedures such as necropsy, sample collection, laboratory testing, and interpretation of clinical and pathological findings.
3. Apply appropriate diagnostic imaging techniques.
4. Diagnose pregnancy and manage obstetrical and reproductive cases.
GO3 – Veterinary Surgical and Therapeutic Skills
Graduates will be able to:
1. Administer different types of medications and implement therapeutic plans for infectious, metabolic, nutritional, and systemic diseases.
2. Apply principles of asepsis, anesthesia, wound management, and postoperative care.
3. Perform general veterinary surgical procedures on small and large animals.
4. Manage emergency cases and provide urgent medical and surgical interventions.
GO4 – Application of Veterinary Knowledge in Animal Health and Production
Graduates will be able to:
1. Apply veterinary knowledge to improve livestock production, animal husbandry, poultry management, and farm biosecurity.
2. Provide scientific advice to livestock owners and poultry farms.
3. Implement disease prevention strategies and vaccination programs.
4. Contribute to food safety through inspection of meat, milk, and animal products.
GO5 – Professional Ethics and Legal Responsibilities
Graduates will:
1. Demonstrate ethical and professional conduct in all veterinary activities.
2. Understand and apply national laws and regulations governing veterinary practice, animal welfare, food safety, and public health.
3. Communicate honestly and professionally with animal owners, colleagues, and authorities.

Graduates will be able to:
1. Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders including farmers, veterinarians, laboratory personnel, and public health authorities.
2. Work efficiently within multidisciplinary teams in veterinary hospitals, laboratories, and field settings.
3. Demonstrate leadership in managing clinical cases, supervising field activities, and coordinating veterinary interventions.

The Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Program adopts the examination, assessment, and grading regulations approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Student performance is evaluated through a variety of continuous and summative evaluation methods, including:

The minimum passing grade is 50%.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery program. The role includes overseeing the implementation of the curriculum, monitoring the achievement of the Graduate Outcomes, coordinating academic activities among faculty members and students, supervising laboratory and field training activities, and ensuring alignment with the University of Mosul’s quality assurance policies, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) regulations, and program accreditation requirements. The Program Coordinator also supports curriculum review and enhancement to ensure that the program remains responsive to advances in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery as well as industry needs.
