A master’s thesis presented by Abdullah Marwan Hazim “Conventional and Molecular Diagnosis of Aerobic Bacteria Isolated from Cases of Enteritis in Pigeons.”

Master’s Thesis Defense

A Master’s thesis defense was held at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Microbiology, entitled “Conventional and Molecular Diagnosis of Aerobic Bacteria Isolated from Cases of Enteritis in Pigeons.” The thesis was presented by Abdullah Marwan Hazim, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Amer Yahya Hameed and Asst. Prof. Dr. Salam Abd Ismail, on Monday, August 24, 2026.

The thesis defense committee consisted of the following members:

Prof. Dr. Safwan Yousif Mahmoud – College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Mosul – Chair

Asst. Prof. Sumaya Yaseen Abdullah – College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Mosul – Member

Asst. Prof. Dr. Ihsan Muneer Ahmed – College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Mosul – Member

Prof. Dr. Amer Yahya Hameed – College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Mosul – Member and Supervisor

Asst. Prof. Dr. Salam Abd Ismail – College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Mosul – Member and Supervisor

The study aimed to employ conventional and molecular diagnostic methods to identify aerobic bacteria isolated from cases of enteritis in pigeons. The research focused on determining the morphological characteristics and cultural properties of the bacteria when grown on laboratory media and confirming their identification using rapid and advanced diagnostic techniques, including the VITEK system and Render technology. In addition, molecular assays were conducted to detect the virulence factor genes of the isolated bacteria.

Following the student’s confident and scientifically rigorous defense of his thesis and the subsequent discussion by the committee, the thesis was accepted.

Congratulations to the researcher, his supervisors, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Department of Microbiology on this scientific achievement. We wish the members of the defense committee continued success and excellence.

This thesis defense contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
