PhD thesis presented by Tima Adlan Yahya, titled “Comparison of the pharmacological and molecular effects between nimesulide and aspirin in mice”

Professor Sevan Saad Al-Mahmood, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, and Professor Raad Abdul Ghani Bashir, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, along with a group of professors and graduate students attended the “Tima Adlan Yahya” defense for her Doctoral dissertation in the field of veterinary pharmacology, titled (Comparison of the pharmacological and molecular effects between nimesulide and aspirin in mice) on Wednesday, April 29, 2025.

The study aimed to compare the pharmacological and molecular effects between selective (nimesulide) and non-selective (aspirin) Cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitors in mice. The results of the study indicated that nimesulide possesses pharmacological properties (analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory) better than aspirin, as well as superior molecular effects (caspase-3, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha, and Cyclooxygenase 2 gene expression) in mice, making it useful for practical application in veterinary medicine.

The doctoral examination committee consisted of the following members:

  • Fouad Qasim Muhammad (Emeritus Professor) as Chairman
  • Muhammad Khalid Taha as Member
  • Siham Ajami Wadi as Member
  • Mona Hazem Ibrahim as Member
  • Associate Prof. Yasser Muhammad Amin as Member
  • Yaarub Jafar Musa as Member and Supervisor

After an extensive defense by the student, the committee decided to accept the dissertation and award the student a doctoral degree. Professor Sevan Saad Al-Mahmoud, Dean of the College, thanked Professor Siham Ajami Wadi for participating as a member of the doctoral examination committee. Congratulations to the researcher, the supervisor, the college, and the Department of Physiology, Biochemistry, and pharmacology for this scientific achievement.

Best wishes to the examination committee.
