PhD Dissertation Defense at the College of Veterinary Medicine – University of Mosul

In the presence of Prof. Dr. Saevan Saad Al-Mahmoud, Dean of the College, and Prof. Dr. Raad Abdul-Ghani Basheer, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, along with a distinguished group of faculty members and postgraduate students, the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Mosul held a PhD dissertation defense for the student Tima Adlan Yahya in the field of Veterinary Pharmacology on Wednesday, April 29, 2025.

The dissertation, titled:
“Comparison of the Pharmacological and Molecular Effects Between Nimesulide and Aspirin in Mice”
aimed to compare the pharmacological and molecular effects of selective (Nimesulide) and non-selective (Aspirin) Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors in mice.

The findings of the study indicated that Nimesulide exhibited superior pharmacological properties—namely analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects—compared to Aspirin. Moreover, it demonstrated enhanced molecular activity in relation to Caspase-3, Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Alpha (PPAR-α), and COX-2 gene expression, suggesting its potential for practical application in the field of veterinary medicine.

The defense committee consisted of:

  1. Prof. Dr. Fouad Qasim Mohammed (Professor Emeritus) – Chair
  2. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Khalid Taha – Member
  3. Prof. Dr. Suham Ajmi Wadi – Member
  4. Prof. Dr. Muna Hazem Ibrahim – Member
  5. Assist. Prof. Dr. Yasser Mohammed Amin – Member
  6. Prof. Dr. Ya’rub Jaafar Mousa – Member and Supervisor

Following a thorough discussion and the candidate’s successful defense of her work, the committee decided to accept the dissertation and award the PhD degree to the student.

On this occasion, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Saevan Saad Al-Mahmoud, extended special thanks to Prof. Dr. Suham Ajmi Wadi for her participation as a committee member.

Congratulations to the researcher, the supervisor, the Department of Physiology, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology, and the entire College on this scientific achievement. Wishing continued success to all involved.
