A master’s thesis presented by Rahma Mohammed Ali Ahmed, titled: “Molecular Analysis of Jaagsiekte Sheep Retrovirus and Its Correlation with Immunohistochemical Expression of Some Oncoproteins in Alveolar Cells”

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Mosul discussed the master’s thesis titled:
“Molecular Analysis of Jaagsiekte Sheep Retrovirus and Its Correlation with Immunohistochemical Expression of Some Oncoproteins in Alveolar Cells.”
The study was submitted by student Rahma Mohammed Ali Ahmed, specializing in Veterinary Pathology, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

During the study, 173 lung samples were collected from sheep showing respiratory symptoms and foamy nasal discharge. The overall incidence rate of ovine pulmonary adenocarcinoma (OPA) was 13.3%. The current study’s gross pathology findings revealed pathological color changes in the affected lungs.

The results indicated a 94% genetic match with French viral isolates (accession numbers PP575043 and PP575049), 55% similarity with a Chinese isolate (ON211931), 84% with a UK isolate (Z71304), and 60% with an Indian isolate (MK353445).
