Workshop titled: “Introduction to Human Rights”

As part of the cooperation framework between the Career Development, Employment, and Follow-up Division and the Human Rights Division at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, in coordination with the Office of the High Commission for Human Rights in Nineveh, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Career Development, Employment, and Follow-up Unit and the Human Rights Unit organized an educational workshop on Sunday, April 20, 2025, titled “Introduction to Human Rights.”
The workshop was delivered by Mr. Nashwan Salem (Director of the Commission’s Office in Nineveh) and Dr. Nagham Luqman (Head of the Publication and Awareness Division), and was attended by a number of faculty members, staff, and students from the college.
The session included an introduction to the High Commission for Human Rights, its roles and responsibilities according to Law No. 53 of 2008 (amended), followed by a presentation on human rights — a set of ethical and legal principles guaranteed to every person by virtue of being human. These rights are not granted by any authority but are inherent to human existence and obligate states and institutions to respect and protect them.
The speakers also discussed the relationship between human rights and veterinary medicine, highlighting the role of veterinarians in protecting human rights, including the health right, food right, and food safety. A short video was shown to explain the main concepts of human rights, followed by an open discussion and Q&A session with the participants.
The workshop was attended by Dr. Omar Qusay Jassim, Head of the Career Development, Employment, and Follow-up Division at the University Presidency, and Prof. Dr. Raad Basheer Al-Sinjari, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs.
