Workshop: “Field-Level Biological Surveillance in Iraq for Major Pathogens”

On Monday, August 30, 2021, a lecture was held in the hall of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Mosul titled:
“Field-Level Biological Surveillance in Iraq for Major Pathogens”
for advanced students.
The workshop was sponsored by BRPT, implemented by the global company Live Stock, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture / Veterinary Department, the Veterinary Hospital in Nineveh, and the College of Veterinary Medicine – University of Mosul, along with a group of veterinary trainee doctors.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Diyaa Jawhar, Head of the Animal Health Department and Head of the Rehabilitation and Employment Division at the college.

Introduction to transboundary diseases and their significance

Importance of biological surveillance and biosecurity

Explanation of the biological surveillance triangle

Discussion of diseases of public interest and private interest and their impact on the country’s economy
-
Zoonotic diseases (shared diseases between humans and animals)

Animal necropsy procedures
-
Sample collection techniques and proper methods for sending samples to the laboratory
-
Key methods for sample examination
Students actively engaged with the supervisors through meaningful discussions.
