International Geodiversity Day Organized by the Human Rights Unit

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, the Human Rights Unit, in collaboration with the Media and Government Communication Division, organized a workshop titled “Geological Diversity in Nineveh Governorate.”

The workshop addressed the rich and varied geological components of Nineveh, highlighting their environmental and tourism significance. It also reviewed the natural resources abundant in the governorate and explored opportunities for their sustainable development.

The discussions emphasized the connection between geological diversity and several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

Goal 13: Climate Action

Goal 15: Life on Land

The event was attended by students and environmental enthusiasts. It concluded with a set of recommendations calling for increased awareness of the importance of geological diversity and the need to preserve it as part of the natural heritage of Nineveh and Iraq as a whole.
