A master’s thesis presented by Ahmed Adnan Hamed “Study of the Effect of Coenzyme Q10 as an Antioxidant in Broiler Chickens Exposed to the Insecticide Endosulfan”

The master’s thesis titled: “Study of the Effect of Coenzyme Q10 as an Antioxidant in Broiler Chickens Exposed to the Insecticide Endosulfan” by the student Ahmed Adnan Hamed, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Hadeel Basim Thanoon, was discussed on Monday, 20 July 2026 at the Department of Pathology and Poultry Diseases, College of Veterinary Medicine.
The examination committee consisted of the following members:

The results demonstrated the superiority of the Coenzyme Q10 group and the combination group in improving production performance parameters and feed conversion ratio compared to the insecticide‑exposed group and the control group. Hematological parameters, antioxidant measurements, and stress indices reflected clear positive improvements in blood cell counts in the Coenzyme Q10 group relative to the insecticide group.
Furthermore, gene expression analysis revealed age‑dependent variations, showing an inverse expression pattern of PPAR‑α:
- In the first slaughter age, PPAR‑α levels decreased.
- In the second slaughter age, PPAR‑α levels increased.
These findings indicate differential stimulatory effects of the treatments on PPAR‑α expression.
Histopathological examination and internal organ weights also showed improved pathological changes in both treated groups, with reduced severity compared to the control and insecticide groups. Overall, the results confirm the effective role of Coenzyme Q10 in poultry production protocols and recommend its future use alongside natural antioxidant substances in broiler diets.
After the student confidently defended his thesis and addressed the committee’s questions, the thesis was approved.
