A master’s thesis presented by Lujain Abdulghani Abdullah “Conventional and Molecular Diagnosis of Intestinal Protozoa in Dogs”
The master’s thesis titled: “Conventional and Molecular Diagnosis of Intestinal Protozoa in Dogs” by the student Lujain Abdulghani Abdullah, under the supervision of Prof. Wasan Amjad Ahmed, was discussed on Sunday, 19 July 2026 at the Department of Microbiology, College of Veterinary Medicine.
The examination committee consisted of the following members:

- Asst. Prof. Hadeel Asim Mohammed (College of Veterinary Medicine – University of Mosul) – Member
- Prof. Wasan Amjad Ahmed (College of Veterinary Medicine – University of Mosul) – Member and Supervisor
The study investigated intestinal protozoa in dog feces across different ages, breeds, and rearing conditions using conventional diagnostic methods and various staining techniques. A rapid immunochromatographic assay was also employed to diagnose selected protozoa. The identified species were further confirmed using molecular techniques, leading to the diagnosis of multiple protozoan species and the registration of 14 genetic isolates in the GenBank scientific database.
After the student confidently defended her thesis and addressed the committee’s questions, the thesis was approved.
