Master’s Thesis Defense
A Master’s thesis defense was held at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Internal and Preventive Medicine, entitled “Clinical and Diagnostic Investigation of Haemonchosis in Sheep”, presented by Ghufran Ali Hussein, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Hadeel Asim Mohammed, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of haemonchosis in sheep in Mosul using microscopic examination, Mini-FLOTAC, and PCR techniques, while also determining the associated hematological and biochemical alterations.
The results demonstrated a marked prevalence of infection among females, younger age groups, sheep raised under open-grazing systems, larger flocks, and unvaccinated animals, accompanied by anemia and decreased blood protein levels.
The study also documented the registration of ten novel genetic sequences of Haemonchus contortus in the GenBank database, showing high genetic relatedness and sequence similarity with local and international isolates.
Following the researcher’s confident and scientifically rigorous defense of her thesis, and after thorough discussion and evaluation by the committee, the thesis was approved.
