A master’s thesis titled “Isolation and Molecular Characterization of Some Bacteria Associated with Gingivitis and Glossitis in Cats” by the student Huda Diaa Hashim, supervised by Prof. Balsam Yahya Rashid, was discussed on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
The examination committee consisted of the following members:

The study aimed to isolate bacteria responsible for gingivitis in cats. Enterococcus faecalis showed the highest prevalence, followed by Staphylococcus species. The isolates underwent molecular identification and screening for virulence genes using PCR, focusing on key genes such as tuf, Ace, and efaA. The study also evaluated antimicrobial susceptibility, revealing resistance to azithromycin and ceftriaxone.
After the student defended her thesis with scientific rigor and confidence, and following the committee’s deliberation, the thesis was accepted.
