The Department of Economics at the Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, Discusses a Master’s Thesis on the Impact of Investment in Renewable Energy on Economic Growth

, The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed on Sunday, July 5, 2026 Master’s thesis entitled: The Impact of Investment in Renewable Energy on Economic Growth: An Econometric Study for a Sample of Developed and Developing Countries,” submitted by the student First Mahmoud Mohammed Amin, in Discussion Hall No. (1).

The study aimed to analyze the trends of both economic growth and renewable energy consumption, as well as to measure and analyze the impact of investment in renewable energy on economic growth for a sample of developing and developed countries during the period (2000–2025). This contributes to demonstrating how the nature of this impact differs between developed and developing economies.

The study reached a number of conclusions, most notable of which was that investment in renewable energy has a positive impact on economic growth in the short term in both China and the United States of America, with this effect appearing after one year in China, whereas the impact was negative in Iraq and did not appear in Germany during the same term. In the long term, however, the results showed a positive impact in both Iraq and the United States of America, while this effect disappeared in both China and Germany. This reflects the varying responses of the studied economies according to their structural characteristics and the levels of development in their renewable energy sectors.
