Program Description
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Financial and Banking Sciences at the University of Mosul is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program comprising 240 credits under the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), in alignment with the Bologna Process.
Financial and Banking Sciences is a vital and strategic field of study concerned with understanding and managing financial resources in a changing economic environment. The program at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, focuses on equipping students with the analytical and technical skills required to work in the banking sector, financial markets, and investment management. At Level 1, students are introduced to the fundamental principles of management, economics, and accounting. This level is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation common to the programs offered by the College of Administration and Economics. Specialized topics in Financial and Banking Sciences are introduced at subsequent levels, preparing students for more advanced courses at Levels 3 and 4. Accordingly, graduates of Financial and Banking Sciences are prepared to make sound financial decisions based on solid scientific foundations, in line with the vision of the College and the University to contribute to the national economy.
At Levels 3 and 4, students undertake a range of courses covering specialized areas within the discipline. This enables them to develop their professional and academic interests in accordance with the requirements of both local and international labor markets, under the direct supervision and guidance of the Department’s academic staff and academic advisors.
Summer training is an essential graduation requirement and is undertaken during the summer vacation following successful completion of the third year. Students are generally assigned to, or given the opportunity to choose among, different institutions. The training aims to facilitate students’ transition from the academic environment to the actual workplace by providing opportunities to apply financial tools and practice financial analysis using specialized software.

Awarded Qualification
Upon successful completion of the program requirements, graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Financial and Banking Sciences by the University of Mosul.
Qualification Level
The program is classified at Level 6 of the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF), or its equivalent, in accordance with the regulations, instructions, and guidelines approved by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR).
Specific Admission Requirements
Admission to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Financial and Banking Sciences program is governed by the regulations and admission policies approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To be awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Financial and Banking Sciences, students must successfully fulfill all graduation requirements, including:
- Successful completion of all240 ECTS credits, including all compulsory and elective courses specified in the curriculum.
- Fulfillment of the minimumgraduation requirements in accordance with the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
- Successful completion of thesummer training requirement specified in the program.
- Compliance with allacademic regulations governing assessment, academic progression, and graduation, as approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and transfer of academic credits are considered only in cases of student transfer or course equivalency, in accordance with the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Banking and Financial Sciences program, graduates are expected to achieve the following Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) or Graduate Outcomes (GOs), which describe the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required upon graduation:
GO1: Oral and Written Communication Graduates will be able to formally communicate the results of financial analyses and banking reports using effective oral and written communication skills.
GO2: Applied and Field Studies Graduates will be able to conduct financial studies and field training in banking institutions using modern software tools and trading technologies, while adhering to the principles of transparency and financial governance.
GO3: Scientific Knowledge Graduates will be able to demonstrate a balanced understanding of the development of financial and monetary theories, including the historical development of banks and global financial systems.
GO4: Financial Data Analysis Graduates will be able to demonstrate specialized quantitative skills, including the ability to analyze complex financial data and apply mathematical models in asset valuation.
GO5: Institutions and Markets Graduates will be able to work in financial institutions and offices during the preparation of investment plans and portfolio management. They will also be able to work in practical financial environments, including banks and stock exchanges, while carrying out banking and financial operations.
GO6: Critical Thinking Graduates will be able to apply critical-thinking and financial problem-solving skills effectively to address challenges in financial markets, as well as to develop a research project and/or an academic research paper in the field of Banking and Financial Sciences.

Mode of Study
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Banking and Financial Sciences is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program delivered in accordance with the Bologna Process and comprising 240 ECTS credits.
The program adopts a student-centered learning approach that integrates theoretical lectures, practical applications, financial and banking case studies, field training, project-based learning, and the use of modern financial and banking software and technologies.
Students are trained to use modern software and tools in the financial and banking fields for financial analysis, data analysis, investment evaluation, investment portfolio management, risk management, and banking operations, as well as applications of financial technology (FinTech) and digital banking and financial services.
These learning activities are further supported by seminars, workshops, and practical and field training in financial and banking institutions, with the aim of enhancing students’ professional competence, developing their analytical and digital skills, and preparing them for careers in the financial and banking sector.
Program Coordinator
Program Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Banking and Financial Sciences
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Banking and Financial Sciences program. The role includes overseeing the implementation of the curriculum, monitoring the achievement of the Graduate Outcomes (GOs), coordinating academic activities among faculty members and students, supervising applied activities and field training in financial and banking institutions, and ensuring alignment with the University of Mosul’s quality assurance policies, the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), and program accreditation requirements.
The Program Coordinator also contributes to the review and development of the curriculum to ensure that the program remains responsive to developments in Banking and Financial Sciences, labor market needs, and modern and emerging financial and banking technologies.
