The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed on Thursday, August 27, 2026, a master’s thesis entitled (Measuring and Analyzing the Impact of External Remittances on Economic Growth in Selected Developing Countries with Special Reference to Iraq) presented by student Hajar Nabeel Abdulwahab Al-Halawachi, in Discussion Hall No. (1).

​The study aimed to analyze the impact of external remittances on economic growth for a group of developing countries during the period (2005–2023), clarify the nature of the relationship between them, and compare this impact across three categories of developing countries according to the World Bank income classification: upper-middle-income, lower-middle-income, and low-income countries, with special attention given to Iraq.

​The results of the study revealed a long-term equilibrium relationship among the study variables. They also showed that external remittances had a positive and significant effect on enhancing economic growth in upper-middle-income and lower-middle-income countries, whereas they showed no statistically significant effect in low-income countries. Additionally, the results revealed variations in the impact of foreign direct investment, portfolio investments, and domestic savings across the different country categories, while official development assistance showed no significant effect on economic growth.
