The Department of Finance and Banking Sciences at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed a phD thesis entitled “Extreme Financial Risks and the Impact of Their Spread in the Financial Sector: An Applied Study on a Sample of Banks Operating in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries”.
Part of it was attended by the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, the Assistant President of the University of Mosul for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Munir Salem Taha, the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Thaeir Ahmed Saadoon Al-Samman, and the Dean’s Assistants for Scientific and Administrative Affairs.
The current study … submitted by the student “Omar Muhammad Fahmy” in the Department of Banking and Financial Sciences aimed to: Study marginal risk and systematic risk and the impact of its spread in the financial sector of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as focusing on marginal and extreme risks is a basic pillar that paves the way for estimating systematic risk and its spread within this sector.
The study reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which are: that the returns of the shares of the studied financial institutions tend to be extreme and not subject to the normal distribution. The values of the extremism index (4) also showed a large disparity between countries and sub-sectors.
The discussion committee was headed by Professor Dr. Asaad Ghani Jihad from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the membership of Professor Dr. Rafia Ibrahim Abdullah and Assistant Professor Dr. Shaza Abdul Hussein Jabr from the Middle Technical University / Technical Administrative College Baghdad, Assistant Professor Dr. Saja Fathi Muhammad, Assistant Professor Dr. Namir Amir Al-Sayegh, and the membership and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Duaa Noman Muhammad.
