A doctoral thesis in the Department of Economics discusses “Measuring and Analyzing the Impact of Debt on the Economic Performance of Selected Countries with Reference to Iraq” on Tuesday, June 17, 2025…

The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Mosul discussed the doctoral thesis titled “Measuring and Analyzing the Impact of Debt on the Economic Performance of Selected Countries with Reference to Iraq.” This current study aimed to measure the impact of the relationship between external debt and the indicators of economic performance during the period (2004-2021) and analyze it for selected countries, as external debts are an important source of financing for budget deficits. The study reached a number of conclusions, the most important of which is that the dialectic of the impact of debt on the economic performance indicators of this study led us to an alarming reality that these debts have negative effects and repercussions over the years of the study for the sample Arab and emerging countries.

The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Haidar Ali Muhammad from Al-Mustaqbal University/Babel, with the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Aws Fakher Al-Din Ayoob, Assistant Professor Dr. Adi Salem Ali, Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Wahab Dhnoun Saadoun, and Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Wahid Hassan, under the membership and supervision of Professor Dr. Hashem Muhammad Abdullah.
