A Scientific Visit to the Department of Financial and Banking Sciences: Master’s Thesis Discussion on “Capital Structure and Its Impact on the Profitability of Insurance Companies” – College of Administration and Economics / University of Mosul

The discussion hall of the Department of Business Administration – College of Administration and Economics at the University of Mosul witnessed, on Monday, August 25, 2025, the discussion of the master’s thesis submitted by the student Ibrahim Nabil Abdul Amir Ahmed in the Department of Financial and Banking Sciences, entitled: “The Impact of Capital Structure on the Profitability of Insurance Companies – An Analytical Study in a Sample of Arab Countries.”

The study aimed to analyze the impact of capital structure on the profitability of insurance companies listed in the financial markets of Iraq, Syria, and Kuwait during the period (2014–2023), highlighting the importance of financial structure as a key factor in companies’ ability to achieve technical and investment returns. The study also indicated that debt ratios and financial leverage contribute to this impact, along with other factors such as liquidity, company size, the ratio of return on underwritten premiums, revenue growth rate, in addition to operational and economic conditions.

The study concluded that there is a variation in the impact of financial leverage ratios and other determinants of capital structure on the profitability of insurance companies across the countries studied. This is attributed to the presence of a dynamic equilibrium mechanism represented by the Error Correction Term (ECT), which enables companies to correct deviations in their financing structures and return to a long-term equilibrium path, with varying speeds of correction among companies in each of the studied countries.

The discussion committee was composed of:
