Discussion of a PhD thesis on “The Impact of International Financing Sources on Economic Performance” in the Department of Economics – College of Administration and Economics – University of MosulOn Wednesday, August 27, 2025

The Financial and Banking Sciences Department at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, witnessed the defense of a PhD thesis by student Farhan Abdul Rahman Khidr from the Department of Economics, titled: “Measuring and Analyzing the Impact of International Financing Sources on the Economic Performance of Selected Countries.

“The study aimed to achieve several objectives, the most prominent of which are:1. Highlighting the theoretical trends of international financing sources (foreign direct investment, loans, grants, and aid) and their role in enhancing economic performance, growth, and reducing unemployment and inflation rates.2. Analyzing the reality of these sources and the indicators of economic performance in the selected countries during the research period.3. Measuring and analyzing the impact of international financing on economic performance, emphasizing the differences among the studied regional groups.

The thesis concluded with detailed results that showed the varying effects of international funding sources between the short and long term, and across different regions (Latin America and Southeast Asia). It was found that foreign direct investment often had a positive and significant impact on economic growth, while external debts showed a negative and significant effect in most cases. The subject of the thesis aligns with Goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals (Partnerships for the Goals), as it requires regional and international collaboration in the field of financing, and strengthening the capacities of countries to face economic challenges and achieve sustainable growth.
