Master’s Thesis on Responsible Investment and Its Impact on Portfolio Performance – Department of Financial and Banking Sciences, College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul

The College of Administration and Economics at the University of Mosul witnessed the discussion of the master’s thesis submitted by the student Odai Younis Ayoub, entitled:

“Responsible Investment and Its Impact on Portfolio Performance – An Analytical Study of a Sample of International Financial Markets with Reference to Iraq”, on Sunday, August 31, 2025, in Discussion Hall No. (1).

The study aimed to analyze the role of responsible investment in improving portfolio performance by integrating Environmental (E), Social (S), and Governance (G) criteria into a modern investment approach that considers global environmental challenges such as climate change and pollution, as well as the importance of adopting the principles of good governance and the rule of law, alongside the social dimension related to human rights, equality, and job creation.

The study concluded that adopting environmental and social practices alone is not sufficient to improve the financial performance of portfolios in the presence of weak legal and governance frameworks. It further clarified that the success of green projects depends on the quality of the institutional environment, which places Iraq before the necessity of reforming its institutions to meet the requirements of responsible investment.

The session was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Salem Khalil Khalid, and the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Abdulrahman Zuhair Abdulqader.

The examining committee consisted of: Prof. Dr. Namir Amir Al-Saigh – College of Administration and Economics / University of Mosul – Chairman. Asst. Prof. Dr. Hala Yaseen – College of Administration and Economics / University of Mosul – Member. Asst. Prof. Dr. Aso Bahaaddin Qader – Northern Technical University – Member. Prof. Dr. Rafaa Ibrahim Al-Hamdani – College of Administration and Economics / University of Mosul – Member and Supervisor.

This study aligns with the 8th and 13th Sustainable Development Goals (Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Climate Action) by calling for responsible investments that balance financial returns with environmental protection and the promotion of social justice.
