PhD Dissertation in the Department of Economics Discusses: “Education Quality and Its Impact on Economic Growth and Employment in Developing Countries with Reference to Iraq” Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in Discussion Hall No. (2).

The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed the PhD dissertation titled:

“Education Quality and Its Impact on Economic Growth and Employment in Developing Countries with Reference to Iraq.”

The Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Sinan Zuhair Mohammed Jameel, attended part of the discussion.

The present study, submitted by the student Mohammed Thanoon Aidan in the Department of Economics, aimed to examine the impact of education quality on both economic growth and employment in developing countries, which have experienced increases in school enrollment, years of schooling, and high population growth. Education quality plays a decisive role in economic growth, directly affecting human resources, their development, productivity, and innovation. Moreover, countries tend to focus on education outcomes rather than merely school enrollment, and on their effect on GDP in the long run.

The study reached several conclusions, the most important of which are: education quality has a significant impact on both economic growth and employment, and the relationship between average years of schooling, economic growth, and employment in developing countries is more sensitive and complex due to structural challenges.

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Saad Mahmoud Al-Kawaz from the College of Administration and Economics / University of Mosul, and included the following members: Asst. Prof. Dr. Khudhir Jassim Hamad Al-Jubouri – College of Administration and Economics / University of Tikrit، Asst.
