The Department of Accounting at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 a master’s thesis titled:

“Assessing the Level of Commitment of Islamic Banks to the Requirements of Basel Committee III and the IAS 1 and AAOIFI 1 Standards and Its Impact on Financial Performance: A Comparative Study between Iraqi and Jordanian Islamic Banks.”

The study, presented by Ahmed Adnan Shihab Al-Khairu, aimed to evaluate the extent to which Islamic banks in Iraq and Jordan comply with international and Islamic accounting standards and Basel Committee requirements, as well as to analyze how this compliance reflects on financial performance. The research also compared the two countries’ experiences to identify differences in banking efficiency levels.

The findings revealed that integrated compliance with IAS 1, AAOIFI 1, and Basel III standards serves as a cornerstone for enhancing transparency and risk management. Results showed that Jordanian banks demonstrated a higher level of compliance and a more effective application of these standards, which positively impacted their financial performance. In contrast, several Iraqi banks exhibited relatively weaker implementation, which affected their operational effectiveness.
