A Higher Diploma Thesis Examines the Effectiveness of Investment Spending in Supporting the National Economy – Department of Financial and Banking Sciences, College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul

The Department of Financial and Banking Sciences at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the Higher Diploma thesis titled “The Effect of Investment Spending on Economic Growth in Iraq for the Period 2005–2023”, held in Discussion Hall No. (2).
The thesis was submitted by Zainab Ismail Saadoun Al-Hayali, and aimed to analyze and measure the relationship between investment spending and economic growth, as well as to track the development of the size and structure of investment spending in Iraq during the period (2005–2024).
The study reached several conclusions, the most important of which is the lack of sectoral balance in the distribution of investment spending due to excessive reliance on one or two sectors during certain periods. This reflects the absence of an integrated vision for achieving development in Iraq. The results also indicated inefficiency in the allocation of investment spending, as the model showed that the current sectoral distribution of public investments does not reflect growth priorities, reinforcing the hypothesis of misallocation and low productivity in some sectors.
The discussion committee consisted of: Prof. Bashar Ahmed Abdul Razzaq Al-Iraqi – College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul – Chairman, Asst. Prof. Harith Ghazi Thanoon – College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul – Member and Asst. Prof. Uday Salem Ali – College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul – Member and Supervisor.
