The Department of Finance and Banking at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul Holds a Scientific Workshop on “Smart Banks” in Cooperation with Al-Taif Islamic Bank

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Administration and Economics, Prof. Dr. Sinan Zuhair Mohammed Jameel, the Department of Finance and Banking, in cooperation with Al-Taif Islamic Bank / Mosul Branch, organized a scientific workshop titled: “Smart Banks: The Future of Banking Services in the Era of the Digital Revolution”

The event took place on the morning of Wednesday, December 3, 2025, in Hall No. (2) at 10:00 a.m.

The workshop commenced with an opening speech delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ashti Abdul-Sattar Al-Mazouri, followed by a blessed recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an. This was followed by a speech by the Dean of the College, who welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of enhancing digital awareness and keeping pace with technological transformation in the banking sector, as a fundamental pillar for advancing financial and banking work in Iraq.

Next, the Head of the Department of Finance and Banking, Asst. Prof. Dr. Uday Salem Ali, delivered a welcoming speech in which he highlighted the department’s role in supporting joint scientific activities. The Manager of Al-Taif Islamic Bank – Mosul Branch also delivered remarks in which she stressed the importance of academic–banking partnerships in developing students’ applied knowledge and updating their skills in line with labor market requirements.

The Dean of the College then presented certificates of appreciation to several participants in recognition of their scientific efforts and support for the workshop.

After that, the scientific session began, chaired by Prof. Dr. Rafaa Ibrahim Al-Hamdani, with Mr. Omar Nashat Omar assisting in moderating the session. Two research papers were presented: the first by Raghad Zuhair Najm, and the second by Asst. Prof. Dr. Laila Abdul-Karim Mohammed. Both papers focused on the latest trends in digital transformation and prospects for developing smart banking.

The workshop concluded with rich scientific discussions and valuable interventions from the Dean and a number of faculty members, researchers, and attendees, contributing to a deeper understanding of the future of digital banking services and opening new horizons for cooperation between academia and the banking sector.
