Department of Accounting at the College of Administration and Economics Enhances Sustainable Development Goals through a Specialized Scientific Workshop on Accounting and Auditing Standards

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Administration and Economics, Professor Dr. Sinan Zuhair Mohammed Jameel, the Department of Accounting organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled:
“The Role of Accounting and Auditing Standards in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The workshop was held as part of the College’s efforts to promote the concepts of sustainability, governance, and transparency, and to link academic aspects with modern professional practices, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
The workshop aimed to introduce the relationship between international accounting and auditing standards and the Sustainable Development Goals, highlight accounting standards related to sustainability, and clarify the role of the accounting and auditing profession in supporting the achievement of these goals at both the institutional and societal levels.
The outcomes of the workshop included achieving an in-depth understanding of sustainability accounting and assurance, identifying existing gaps in relevant accounting and auditing standards, and presenting practical proposals for integrating sustainability concepts into accounting education curricula. In addition, the workshop identified research priorities in the fields of sustainability auditing and assurance, thereby enhancing transparency in reporting environmental and social performance and strengthening a culture of institutional accountability.
The workshop was held on Thursday, 8 January 2026, in Discussion Hall No. (2) at 12:30 p.m., with the attendance of a number of faculty members and students.
The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Alaa Abdulwahid Dhanoon, while the lectures were delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdulwahid Ghazi Mohammed and Assistant Professor Dr. Rafi Nizar Jameel.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific activities conducted by the College of Administration and Economics, reaffirming its academic role in supporting sustainable development pathways and building aware and specialized professional capacities.
