A Specialized Course at the College of Basic Education Highlights “Grammatical Reasoning” Between Authenticity and Application

The College of Basic Education / Department of Arabic Language, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, held a specialized course titled: “(Grammatical Reasoning: Origins and Applications).”
Presented by:
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jassim Taha Ahmed
  • Lecturer Dr. Nizar Mousse Darweesh
  • Lecturer Dr. Khalid Muheidi Saleh
The course took place over three days, from October 13 to 15, 2026, and was attended by a group of department faculty members, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students.
The course covered three main themes, with one theme discussed each day:
  • First Theme: The origins of grammatical reasoning among ancient grammarians.
  • Second Theme: Grammatical reasoning as a term and the views of modern scholars.
  • Third Theme: Grammatical applications in selected models.
The course aimed to highlight the significance of grammatical reasoning in linguistic studies, past and present, and to clarify scholars’ stances on its presence in Arab heritage—whether as an original concept or influenced by philosophical logic and dialectical reasoning. It also revealed the Arab mindset in directing grammatical phenomena, explaining their causes, and examining their connection to early native Arab speakers.
The course concluded that grammatical reasoning manifests in three forms:
  1. Educational causes (Pedagogical causes)
  2. Analogical causes
  3. Dialectical causes
