The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a Master’s thesis entitled “Al-Tuhfah Al-Radiyyah ‘ala Muqaddimat Al-Ajurrumiyyah by Abu Al-Fath Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Qadir Al-Khatib (d. 1315 AH): From the Chapter of Nominative Nouns to the End of the Book – A Study and Critical Edition” on Monday, June 15, 2026, in Umm Al-Rabeeain Hall at the College. Part of the discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Younis Saleh, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Raad Ibrahim, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, and a number of faculty members from the department.

The thesis, submitted by the student Farhan Jumaa Mohammed from the Department of Arabic Language, aimed to revive and preserve Arabic grammatical heritage by producing a scholarly critical edition of this valuable linguistic manuscript through the comparison of available manuscript copies and linking its content to the classical Arabic grammatical tradition.

The study addressed several aspects, including the personal and scholarly biography of the author, Abu Al-Fath Al-Khatib, and the historical context of his era. It also focused on editing, verifying, and annotating the manuscript text, documenting the author’s grammatical views and linguistic evidence, beginning with the chapter on nominative nouns and continuing through the remaining sections of the book.

The study reached several conclusions, most notably confirming the manuscript’s significant scholarly value and highlighting the author’s distinctive explanatory method in simplifying grammatical topics and clarifying their complexities. The thesis also contributes a critically edited grammatical text to the Arabic library, enriching historical and linguistic studies.

The examination committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Rafi Ibrahim Mohammed and included Professor Dr. Zahraa Saad Al-Din Sheet, Assistant Professor Dr. Salam Abdul Jassim, and Assistant Professor Dr. Jasim Taha Ahmed as a member and supervisor.
