College of Basic Education Discusses Master’s Thesis on the Impact of the Cosgrove Model Accompanied by Mind Maps on Attention Development and Learning Offensive Basketball Skills

The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a Master’s thesis entitled “The Impact of the Cosgrove Model Accompanied by Mind Maps on Developing Certain Aspects of Attention and Learning Selected Offensive Skills in Basketball” on Monday, June 29, 2026, in Al-Hadbaa Hall at the college.
The thesis, presented by Ms. Yaqeen Dhiab Sulaiman Al Nasser from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, aimed to investigate the effect of the Cosgrove instructional model, accompanied by mind maps, on developing certain aspects of attention among first-year students.
The study examined the effectiveness of the Cosgrove instructional model through its four stages—Orientation, Focus, Challenge, and Application—and its role in enhancing students’ learning outcomes.
The study produced several significant findings, the most notable of which was that the experimental group, which was taught using the Cosgrove model accompanied by mind maps, outperformed the control group, which followed the college’s conventional instructional program, in the variables of attention span, attention focus, and attention distribution.
The examination committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Fattah and included Assistant Professor Dr. Faiq Younis Al-Sabawi, Assistant Professor Dr. Rasha Qaidar Al-Naib, and Assistant Professor Dr. Fawaz Jassim Al-Nadawi, who also served as the thesis supervisor.
