The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a PhD dissertation entitled “The Effect of a Training Program Based on the Professional Needs of Student Teachers in the Department of History on Developing Their Teaching Concepts and Instructional Skills” on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in the Umm Al-Rabeeain Hall at the college.

The dissertation, submitted by Bayan Fares Nasser, aimed to design a training program for student teachers based on their professional needs and to measure its effectiveness in developing their teaching concepts and instructional skills.

The study reached several significant findings. Most notably, the training program, which was developed according to the professional needs of student teachers in the Department of History, effectively addressed their essential professional requirements, particularly during the teaching practicum. Furthermore, the new instructional situations introduced through the program made the observation course more engaging and created a high level of interaction between the researcher and the student teachers. This was achieved through a variety of educational activities, modern teaching aids, and instructional technologies implemented during the program, which contributed significantly to developing the participants’ teaching concepts and instructional skills.

The dissertation recommended adopting training programs based on professional needs in preparing student teachers at Colleges of Basic Education due to their positive impact on enhancing teaching concepts and instructional skills. It also recommended that the Directorates of Preparation and Training within the General Directorates of Education in Iraq design and implement purposeful training programs in the cognitive, skill-based, and affective domains, built upon the actual professional needs of history teachers, in order to improve their teaching performance.

The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Haider Hatem Falih and included the following members:
