Master’s Thesis at the College of Basic Education Examines Social Persuasion and Its Relationship with Kinesthetic Awareness and Self-Monitoring among Female Students in Swimming Lessons

The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis entitled “Social Persuasion and Its Relationship with Kinesthetic Awareness and Self-Monitoring among Female Students in Swimming Lessons” on Monday, July 6, 2026, in the Umm Al-Rabeeain Hall at the college.

The thesis, submitted by Sarah Nazim Mahmoud, aimed to investigate the relationship among three psychomotor variables experienced by female students during swimming lessons:

  • Social persuasion: The extent to which students are influenced by the encouragement and guidance of those around them, such as their instructor and classmates.
  • Self-monitoring: Students’ ability to observe, evaluate, and correct their own performance.
  • Kinesthetic awareness: Students’ awareness of their body movements and coordination while in the water.

The study sought to determine whether students who respond positively to their instructor’s encouragement and effectively monitor their own performance demonstrate a higher level of kinesthetic awareness during swimming.

The findings revealed that:

  • The participants demonstrated high overall levels of positive social persuasion, self-monitoring, and kinesthetic awareness.
  • Significant positive correlations were found among the variables, indicating that higher levels of social persuasion were associated with greater kinesthetic awareness, and higher levels of self-monitoring were likewise associated with improved kinesthetic awareness.
  • Social persuasion and self-monitoring together made a statistically significant contribution to enhancing female students’ kinesthetic awareness.

The study concluded that providing psychological support to students and strengthening their ability to evaluate their own performance during swimming lessons positively enhances their awareness of body movements and coordination in the water, thereby improving the learning process of swimming skills.

The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Nagham Khalid Najeeb and included:

  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Manhal Khattab Sultan – Member
  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Mu’tasim Talal Abdullah – Member
  • Prof. Dr. Thamer Mahmoud Thunoon – Member and Supervisor
