The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a PhD dissertation entitled “The Effectiveness of a Training Program Based on Artificial Intelligence Applications in Acquiring Technical Competencies and Developing Digital Literacy among Science Teachers.”

The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a PhD dissertation entitled “The Effectiveness of a Training Program Based on Artificial Intelligence Applications in Acquiring Technical Competencies and Developing Digital Literacy among Science Teachers.” The discussion was held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Umm Al-Rabi‘ain Hall at the College.

The study, submitted by researcher Hiba Mohammed Saleh Al-Hafiz, focused on developing a training program based on artificial intelligence applications, aimed at equipping science teachers with technical competencies and developing their digital literacy. The program included a range of activities and applications that contribute to integrating artificial intelligence tools into the educational process. It was implemented with a group of science teachers to examine its effectiveness in developing their technical competencies and level of digital literacy.

The study adopted the experimental method using a one-group pre-test/post-test design. The levels of technical competencies and digital literacy among the participants were measured before and after implementing the training program, with the aim of determining the program’s effectiveness in developing teachers’ technical skills and their ability to employ modern digital applications in teaching science.

The dissertation reached several findings, most notably the presence of statistically significant differences between the post-test results and the hypothesized mean in the Artificial Intelligence Technical Competencies Test. It also found a statistically significant difference between the pre- and post-measurements on the Digital Literacy Scale, in favor of the post-measurement. These findings confirm the effectiveness of the training program based on artificial intelligence applications in developing science teachers’ technical competencies and digital literacy.

The findings also highlighted the importance of integrating artificial intelligence applications into teachers’ professional development programs. The study recommended benefiting from the training program in developing teacher-preparation programs and organizing specialized training courses to enhance teachers’ digital skills in line with the requirements of modern education.
