Master Thesis Viva in the College of Education for Pure Science entitled ” Cross-Validation Method for Building and Validating Gaussian Process Regression “The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the Master Thesis Viva entitled ” Cross-Validation Method for Building and Validating Gaussian Process Regression “,On Sunday, October 9, 2022, the College staff including the respected Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Mathematics, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva. This study, presented by the Master student Ghazwan Abdurazzaq Azeez Al-Azzawi in the Department of Mathematics, presents constructing a GPR and estimating the correlation parameters using the cross-validation method, as well as several measures are presented for testing the validity and efficiency of the GPR. These measures are based on comparisons between GPR predictions and outputs of the computer model. Furthermore, we compared the cross-validation (CV) method with the maximum likelihood (ML) and we discovered that the results are quite comparable between the two approaches, therefore CV may be regarded as an alternative to the ML method.In this thesis, two types of examples were taken, the first is simple one-dimensional, and the other is from real-world systems, which is the wing weight function, and all the calculations and figures were done using the (R) program.The Viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Zakarya Yahya Aljammal from University of Mosul/ College of Computer Sciences and Mathematics and the membership of Asst. Prof. Dr. Munther Abdullah Khalil, University of Tiktit, College of Computer Science and Mathematics, Lecturer Dr. Ghanem Mahmood Dhaher, University of Mosul, College of Education for Pure Sciences and under the supervision and membership of Asst. Prof. Dr. Younus Hazim Ismael, University of Mosul, College of Education for Pure Sciences.
