Master’s Thesis Discussion / Medical Physiology Department

A master’s student, Shaymaa Ibrahim Mahmoud Mohammad, discussed her thesis titled “Evaluation of Bone Mineral Density and Body Mass Index in Adult Male Smokers” on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 9:00 AM in the Al-Razi Hall, College of Medicine, Mosul University. Which was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Studies and Planning – Sustainable Development Unit.

The examination committee consisted of:

The study aimed to investigate the relationship between smoking and bone health indicators in male smokers. Results showed an inverse correlation between smoking duration and bone density. It concluded that smoking is a risk factor negatively impacting bone health. The study recommended promoting smoking cessation programs, improving lifestyle, and nutrition to mitigate accelerated bone deterioration.

This research contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 4, 8, 11, 12, and 13 by promoting good health, quality education, and sustainable communities, and by providing recommendations that improve lifestyle and nutrition to reduce smoking-related health risks.
