Discussion of a Master’s Thesis in the Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine*
With the help of God, the Master’s thesis of the student (Alaa Mohammad Abdul Rahman) titled “Immunohistochemical Expression of CD47 and SIRP-alpha in B-Cell Lymphoma in Nineveh Governorate” was discussed on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the Discussion Hall, College of Medicine, University of Mosul.
The discussion committee consisted of:
– Prof. Dr. Muna Abdul Basit Abdul Razzaq (Chairman)
– Asst. Prof. Dr. Zahraa Marwan Shaaban (Member)
– Asst. Prof. Dr. Banan Burhan Mohammad (Member)
– Asst. Prof. Dr. Khaled Wissam Abdul Fattah Khattab (Member and Supervisor)
– Asst. Prof. Dr. Nadwa Subhi Mustafa Al-Ezzo (Member and Supervisor)
The study aimed to evaluate and compare the frequency of co-expression of CD47 and SIRP-α in B-cell lymphoma, in addition to studying its association with some clinical and pathological parameters.
The results showed that the average age of patients with Hodgkin lymphoma was lower than that of patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, with a slight predominance in males with nodal tumors. The cases of B-cell lymphoma included in this study showed immunohistochemical expression of CD47 and SIRP-α independently, with varying degrees of staining.
The study recommended using CD47 and SIRP-α immunohistochemical stains in B-cell lymphoma, especially in younger patients and in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) subtypes, and conducting further experimental and clinical studies to explore the therapeutic potential of targeting the CD47-SIRP-α axis, and evaluating its potential utility in B-cell lymphoma treatment strategies.
This study is in line with Goal 4 and Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
