Workshop: “Electronic Blackmail: Prevention and Response with Awareness and Safety”
Under the auspices of the President of Mosul University, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Assistant Professor Dr. Humam Ghanim Ibraahim, and in implementation of the Third National Plan for Women, Security, and Peace / Protection and Prevention Pillar, and in line with Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
The Women’s Affairs Committee at the College of Medicine, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the University Presidency and the Security Center for Universities and Institutes of Nineveh, organized a workshop titled “Electronic Blackmail: Prevention and Response with Awareness and Safety”. The target audience included all faculty members and students of the college.
The workshop began on Sunday, June 2, 2025, with a speech by Dr. Banan Burhan Muhammad, followed by a lecture by Ms. Shayma Hatem titled “The Position of Iraqi Law on the Iraqi Constitution”.
This was followed by a lecture presented by representatives from the Security Center for Universities and Institutes of Nineveh. The second day featured lectures by representatives from the Community Police, Colonel Hazem Najm Abdullah and Lieutenant Reem Shukr Sobhi.
*Workshop Objectives:*
– Raising awareness among participants about the concept of electronic blackmail and its various forms
– Displaying common methods used by blackmailers to hack or threaten victims
• Educating participants on safe and responsible internet use, providing guidance on protecting personal accounts and data, and promoting awareness about the risks of sharing compromising content.
• Fostering collaboration among relevant stakeholders, including security, law enforcement, educational institutions, and social organizations, to develop a comprehensive approach to preventing and combating electronic blackmail.
