The Associate Chief Translator, Rawia T. Yassin, who is affiliated with the Quality Assurance and Performance Evaluation Division, College of Medicine, University of Mosul, completed her master’s study on “doctor-patient encounters in the Mosuli Arabic with reference to the English” on Sunday 12th December 2021.

The thesis addressed the relationship between the language of medical dialogue and the quality of the health system as the medical communication skills are the cornerstone of modern medical education and practice and are increasingly gaining importance all over the world.

It aimed to shed light on the doctor-patient encounters in the Mosuli Arabic dialect in an attempt to examine the different linguistic identifying characteristics such as control, distinctive features, communication patterns, and many others.

It concluded that there was clear linguistic evidence that physicians’ control over dialogue and their professional authority prevailed during the stages of the medical encounter, and that the results could be of great value to local health authorities as well as in the field of medical education to enhance physician-patient communication skills.

After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read that included accepting the thesis and awarding the student a master’s degree.
