A Lecturer from the Department of Medicine Delivers a Virtual Lecture on Metformin Medicine and Its Role in Treating Diabetes during Fasting

Under the auspices of Merck Pharmaceuticals, a medical scientific symposium was held on the month of Ramadan and diabetes on Friday 16th April 2021. The symposium consisted of one lecture given by the Lecturer Dr Muhammad Gh. Abdul-Hadi from the College of Medicine on the drug metformin and its role in the treatment of type II diabetes during Ramdhan month.

The symposium discussed the role of metformin (Glucophage) in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

It aimed to demonstrate the benefit of Glucophage XR in comparison to the regular drug Glucophage during the month of Ramadan.

And it found the possibility of administering Glucophage XR long-acting Glucophage once a day after or during breakfast with fewer side effects compared to regular Glucophage which must be given two or three times to achieve the same effect.

The seminar was attended by a number of teaching staff of the Colleges of Medicine and Nineveh and doctors specializing in Nineveh Health Department.
